Job Summary
Under general supervision, responsible for the performance of organic analysis diagnostic testing of animal tissues and biological specimens, method development and quality control for the prevention, diagnosis and investigation into animal toxicology. Responsible for the maintenance of laboratory equipment, trouble-shooting of malfunctioning instrumentation and maintaining and ensuring compliance with the safety protocols of the laboratory, CAHFS, University, and State.
THIS IS NOT AN H1B/J1 OPPORTUNITY. Candidate must be legally permitted to work in the United States and not subject to revocation.
This is not a research position. The position is located in a diagnostic laboratory where quality control and assurance as well as meticulous working habits are essential.
This position is posted for 4 weeks. Applicants will be screened after two weeks; and then on a weekly basis. The position can be filled prior to the removal date.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Ability to distinguish between colors. Stoop, bend, and lift supplies and equipment weighing up to 50 lbs.
WORK ENVIRONMENT

The position is located in a diagnostic laboratory where quality control and assurance as well as meticulous working habits are essential. Per the terms and agreements of the department's contracts and grants, the position may require signing of a Confidentiality Agreement or Non-Disclosure Agreement regarding testing and client information. Work occasional flexible schedule to meet business needs, including sharing weekend/holiday coverage. Occasional travel to CAHFS branch laboratories, conferences, etc. Work in an area where there is constant noise from fume hood operation. All CAHFS employees must know and follow job safety procedures, attend required health and safety training, proactively promote safety at work, and promptly report actual and potential accidents and injuries. Must wear laboratory required/supplied PPE and participate in Health Surveillance Program. This position is subject to prophylactic vaccination for rabies, as well as medical surveillance procedures and review in accordance with Federal and State Laws and Regulations and University Policy. Tolerate strong odors and the sight of exposed animal tissues and blood products, and to handle/dispose of infectious materials. May, at times, work with or be in areas where biohazardous and chemical materials and infectious diseases are present. Specific hazards of the position are, but are not limited to salmonella, Listeria, E. coli, Campylobacter, hot acids, bases, ethers and other chemicals. Qualifications/Experience:
QUALIFICATIONS
Required:
-Master's Degree in Chemistry or an equivalent combination of education and experience in a high sample throughput laboratory.
-Knowledge of analytical chemistry and skill to critically understand, interpret, and perform techniques and procedures for analysis of biological samples.
-Knowledge in developing novel approaches or modifying described/published analytical procedures to expand testing capabilities the toxicology laboratory.
-Knowledge of sample preparation techniques, sample spiking and matrix matching principles. Skills to prepare analytical reagents, solutions, controls and standards.
- Skills in organic residue analysis using HPLC, MS and GC Instrumentation. Skills in the operation and maintenance of a wide range of analytical instrumentation, such as: Gas Chromatography, Liquid Chromatography, and Mass Spectrometry.
-Effective communication skills, and skills to train laboratory personnel.
-Experience working in a QA/QC environment, keeping track of details involved in the performance of methods to produce high quality and accurate results.
Preferred:
-Experience working in an accredited diagnostic laboratory -Experience performing method development. Experience performing ion chromatography. -Familiarity with literature sources of analytical procedures. -Ability to work independently with minimal direct supervision.
