Position:
Associate Scientist / Scientist, Drug Metabolism and Pharmacokinetics

Employer:
Genentech

Description:

Join a Team that Lives to Improve Lives

People come to Genentech from across disciplines and across the world to solve our most challenging medical conditions. You’ll find inspiration in our passion for biotechnology, our purpose to positively impact the lives of millions of patients and our dedication to our people. Joining Genentech means being part of a tradition of inquiry that will change the world. It means embracing our failures as much as our successes. It requires a willingness to look beyond the edge of what's possible. And a focus on doing the day-to-day work that makes great science happen.

The following opportunity exists in our South San Francisco, CA headquarters:

Description

The DMPK group is seeking a highly motivated Associate Scientist/Scientist to perform biotransformation studies to support drug discovery.

  • Solid analytical knowledge using and developing LC-MS methods. This includes maintaining high-resolution LC-MS, sample preparation, and analysis.

  • Design, perform, and interpret drug metabolism studies with a focus on metabolite identification in drug discovery.

  • Characterize soft spots, describe drug metabolism pathways, and identify metabolizing enzymes involved in both in vitro and in vivo studies.

  • Contribute to SAR analysis and integrate metabolism information to guide drug design.

  • Leverage In silico tools to complement metabolism data.

  • Present and publish scientific findings across the organization and at professional conferences, while identifying and developing internal and external collaborations.

Qualifications/Experience:

Who You Are

Qualified candidates should meet the following requirements:

  • PhD degree in organic chemistry, pharmaceutical science, analytical, medicinal chemistry, or other relevant discipline with a strong chemistry and experimental metabolism background

  • Previous experience working with drug metabolism and using a high-resolution LC-MS is required

  • Record of accomplishment as evidenced by co-authored publications in scientific journals; first-author publications are required at the Scientist level

  • Working knowledge of drug metabolizing enzymes, reaction mechanisms, bioactivation and bioanalytical techniques such as chromatographic separation and LC-MS/MS structure analysis of small molecules and/or peptides (DNA/RNA is a plus)

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, along with excellent communication skills

  • Applications of software involving metabolism prediction, molecular modeling, or dataset management is a plus

The Drug Metabolism and Pharmacokinetics (DMPK) group at Genentech is dedicated to enabling the discovery, development and commercialization of safe and effective medicines by elucidating the absorption, distribution, metabolism, excretion and pharmacokinetic properties of small molecule drug candidates. We accomplish this through the application of state of the art technologies and sciences of bioanalysis, drug metabolism, drug transport and pharmacokinetics. The DMPK group works in close partnership with disciplines such as medicinal chemistry, pharmacology, toxicology, pharmaceutical sciences, clinical pharmacology and regulatory to optimize leads, select clinical candidates, conduct preclinical development studies, support clinical evaluation and contribute to IND and NDA filings.

Who We Are

Genentech, a member of the Roche group and founder of the biotechnology industry, is dedicated to pursuing groundbreaking science to discover and develop medicines for people with serious and

life-threatening diseases. To solve the world's most complex health challenges, we ask bigger questions that challenge our industry and the boundaries of science to transform society. Our transformational discoveries include the first targeted antibody for cancer and the first medicine for primary progressive multiple sclerosis.
