Position:

We are seeking a highly motivated individual for a temporary Principal Scientific Researcher position in the Core Biophysical Characterization & Reagent Facility in BioAnalytical Sciences at Genentech.  

Responsibilities:

This individual contributor will be responsible for producing chemically modified proteins and antibodies, and characterizing these critical assay reagents using a wide range of bioanalytical and biophysical tools.  This individual will also develop and implement various biophysical characterization methods to assess in vitro molecular interactions such as binding affinities and kinetics in support of drug development.  This individual will work full time in a fast-paced and highly collaborative team-based environment to design and run experiments, interpret data and troubleshoot technical problems, write technical reports, and present data at cross functional group and team meetings.

• BS/BA in Biology, Biochemistry, Chemistry or a related Life Science with at least six years hands-on experience in a bioanalytical laboratory, a protein chemistry laboratory or related life science laboratory.
• Hands-on laboratory experience and knowledge of protein/antibody characterization, modification, and/or purification.
• Experience in developing and/or implementing methods to characterize protein-protein interactions such as Biacore, Octet and/or Isothermal Calorimetry (ITC).  
• Experience with characterization of cell-based molecular interactions is highly desirable.
• Experience with analytical technologies such as mass spectroscopy for characterizing proteins/antibodies is desirable.
• Knowledge of bioanalytical methods that enable biotherapeutic development is a plus.
• Computer proficiency in Word, Excel, and Powerpoint is essential.
• Strong oral/verbal communication, writing, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to effectively collaborate with team members from multiple teams.

• Must be self-motivated, detail-oriented, able to multi-task, and meet timelines efficiently.
