Description:
RESPONSIBILITIES AND LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES:
- Lead in vitro pharmacology strategy to successfully bring programs from target identification and validation through lead optimization and to the clinic.
- Build a team of highly functioning and collaborative team of scientists and champion a climate of creativity, innovation and scientific excellence.
- Exploration of new targets and novel biology to support internal drug discovery efforts
- Play a major role in developing a project pipeline through internal R&D, collaboration, license-in and/or acquisition in the field of infectious disease. Select the projects based on scientific merit, strategic fit and economic value.
- Accountable for leading internal and external capabilities and to build them to fulfill future needs. This includes oversight of the assay automation core function and novel chemical hit-finding within Vir.
Qualifications/Experience:
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Preferred education: BA/BS with a minimum of 18 years, or MA/MS with 16 years, or PhD with 13 years of research experience in a relevant industry/academic setting with a focus on infectious disease.
- At least 10 years of management experience preferred.
- Proven track record of advancing discovery projects into early clinical development
- Expertise in discovery and identification of novel therapeutic targets, and the ability to identify and resolve complex methodological issues.
- Comprehensive understanding of drug discovery disciplines outside own core expertise
- Broad knowledge of, and fascination with, cutting-edge technologies and concepts in immunology, infectious diseases and/or immuno-oncology.
- Experience mentoring and developing scientists and creating/maintaining highly collaborative environments while striving for scientific excellence is required.
