Description:
Responsible for the management and supervision of the laboratory under general direction of the faculty Section Head. Works with a team of individuals to conduct routine regulatory testing and develops new testing strategies for the analysis of small and large molecule drugs in biological matrices utilizing advanced instrumental approaches including, but not limited to, liquid chromatography – mass spectrometry, gas chromatography – mass spectrometry, and immunoassay based approaches. Responsible for directing method development strategies, strategic planning, and project management to enhance the drug testing capabilities of the lab utilizing new technology as available. Ensures quality control procedures and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) are followed and maintains compliance with external accreditation organizations.
RECRUITMENT PERIOD ONE MONTH: Applicants will be screened after two weeks; and then on a weekly basis. The position can be filled prior to the removal date.
Qualifications/Experience:
Required:
Demonstrated experience in providing effective leadership and skills to provide effective laboratory management and supervision of technical staff in a high-production analytical laboratory including prioritizing workload and scheduling personnel to meet strict deadlines
Master’s degree in chemistry or equivalent combined education and experience.
Extensive experience utilizing mass spectrometry based analytical instrumentation and experience performing a wide variety of instrumental techniques using mass spectrometry, immunoassay and related technologies.
Independent thinking, strong decision-making and problem solving skills to evaluate and solve problems and/or make sound recommendations.
Knowledge of quality control and quality assurance in a laboratory that utilizes complex methodology.
Knowledge and skills to effectively recruit, hire, train, and evaluate work performance of personnel.-Demonstrated excellent written, oral, communication and interpersonal skills to effectively manage and interact with staff and co-workers and provide customer service to clients of the CAHFS.
Preferred:
Experience working in a fast-paced, high throughput analytical chemistry laboratory performing drug testing.
Experience writing scientific publications and grant proposals and presenting scientific information to diverse audiences.
Knowledge and understanding of regulations from ARCI, IFHA, HISA and related regulatory authorities.
Professional or Fellow level membership in the Association of Official Racing Chemists.
