Senior Scientist, Small Molecule Analytical Chemistry

Description:
We seek an innovative and passionate scientist to join the Small Molecule Analytical Chemistry department at Genentech. The candidate will use state-of-the-art electrophoresis, chromatography, spectroscopy, and automation technologies to develop and perform high-throughput analysis for formulation screening. The candidate is responsible for the development and implementation of new analytical methods to support high-throughput screening workflows for small molecules, new modalities (oligonucleotides, mRNAs, peptides, etc.), and drug delivery systems (lipid and polymeric nanoparticles, liposomes, etc.). The successful candidate will accomplish our mission through creative problem-solving, proactive strategic thinking, as well as effective cross-functional collaboration, and is expected to maintain a high-level of scientific profile both internally and externally in terms of pipeline contributions and scholarly achievements.
Qualifications/Experience:
- PhD in a relevant scientific discipline (analytical chemistry, pharmaceutical science, chemical/biomedical engineering) with 0-3 years of industry and/or academia experience. Outstanding candidates with MS/BS and extensive experience (3-10 years) will be considered for Senior/Principal Scientific Researcher position
- Proven track record of innovation and success within multiple projects over the course of graduate school, post-doctoral and/or industry career with a strong publication record
- Candidates must have solid knowledge of analytical chemistry, pharmaceutical science, physical chemistry, and organic chemistry as well as be able to apply it to drug discovery and development
- Hands on experience in analytical instruments, including CE (including Bioanalyzer, Fragment analyzer), UHPLC, 2D-LC, LC-MS, particle sizing, UV/Vis/fluorescence/Raman spectroscopy, etc., is strongly preferred
- Experience in high-throughput analytical method development for nucleic acid-based and peptide-based therapeutic modalities as well as cell and gene therapy is highly desirable.
- Experience in lab automation, high-content data mining and visualization, and hands-on experience in robotic liquid and solid handlers is preferred.
- Experience in formulation development of lipid nanoparticles and other novel drug delivery systems is a plus.
Candidates should be self-motivated for problem solving and innovation, responsible for deliverables, and able to work and communicate in a highly collaborative team environment.
