The individual for this position will be responsible for the formulation and analytical development of injectable drug candidates for human clinical studies. The individual should have a strong analytical background to support characterization of small molecules and/or peptide drug products. Previous experience formulating drugs as solution or lyophilized products is desired (training may be provided as applicable). An individual at the level of Chemist III will be expected to take responsibility for the completion of projects under minimal supervision. The individual will be expected to develop time lines and plan series of experiments as required by service agreements and then coordinate and possibly delegate responsibilities to meet Client's expectations. The individual must have a fundamental understanding of ICH guidelines for the chemistry, manufacturing and controls (CMC) of drug products.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
Conduct and/or supervise the execution of analytical and formulation studies for injectable drug candidates
Develop, optimize or troubleshoot stability-indicating HPLC analytical methods when appropriate
Develop lyophilization cycles for injectable products
Prepare update documents and technical reports for clients
Develop strategic experimental plans and timelines
Demonstrates competency in GMP and IND enabling formulation strategies
Interpret data and use conclusions to propose follow up experiments
Lead technical discussions with clients
Effectively communicate with clients and interdepartmental colleagues
Qualifications/Experience:
Minimum B.S. degree in a physical or biological science, Chemistry preferred.
5+ years of experience with techniques such as:
HPLC, reversed-phase chromatography, ion-exchange chromatography, UV/Vis spectroscopy, DSC, TGA, and lyophilization.
USP testing monographs and/or knowledge of GLP and GMP regulations such as: proper GMP documentation, method validation, test method preparation, product specification development for pharmaceutical products.
Experience in formulation development is preferred.
Strong written and oral communication skills.
Well organized, excellent time management, and PC and Microsoft Office proficient.
Hands-on experience using HPLC to characterize small molecule and peptide drug candidates.
Desire to grow into supervisory role
